Resident Placement
Becoming
a Resident of United
Friends Group Homes
Thank
you for your interest in United Friends Group Homes
First
and foremost, United Friends is not a nursing home. Two of our homes
are licensed as Boarding Homes, and one home is licensed as an ICF/ID
(Intermediate Care Facility for the Intellectually Disabled).
All
our homes are under regulation and oversight by the State of
Washington’s Developmental Disabilities Administration. The
clients we provide services for have been diagnosed as
developmentally disabled, and residency at one of our homes is
contingent upon meeting Washington State guidelines and funding
source.
What
is a developmental disability as defined by law?
Under
RCW71A.10.020(3) the definition in law of a developmental disability
is:
A
disability attributable to:
Intellectual
Disability;
Cerebral
Palsy;
Epilepsy;
Autism;
or
Another
neurological or other condition closely related to intellectual
disability or that requires treatment similar to that required for
individuals with intellectual disabilities, which:
Originated
before the individual attained age eighteen;
Continued
or can be expected to continue indefinitely, and
Results
in substantial limitations to an individual's intellectual and/or
adaptive functioning.
Unfortunately
at this time we can only consider referrals from the Division of
Developmental Disabilities. Therefore, your best choice to research
group home living in Washington State should begin with
the Developmental Disabilities Administration. They can provide
you with detailed information regarding to your questions and
assist with finding the most suitable program for your loved ones
needs.
